Pre-commercial digital and green R&D support
The program supports pre-commercial applied research and development related to green or digital innovations, with the aim of developing innovative digital and green technologies, products, and processes in the early stages of research. Grants will be directed towards projects that demonstrate the potential for intersectoral synergies and those focused on the green-digital connection, implemented in collaboration between research organizations and businesses.
The goal of the program is to provide the critical support needed for innovation in digital and green technologies to overcome initial challenges, further develop, and approach commercial sustainability, addressing the challenge faced by many innovative projects: the gap between the completion of research and achieving market readiness. By providing targeted support, the program ensures that these technologies can reach their full potential, responding to the demands of sustainability and digital transformation.
Previous support programs for research and innovation have mostly funded low-risk projects, while riskier pre-commercial research and development projects, particularly in the green and digital sectors, have lacked the necessary support. Although some support instruments, such as the PoC program, assist pre-commercial research and development, they often do not specifically target innovations in the digital and green sectors. Given the strategic emphasis on the digital and green transitions, there is a need for targeted funding to ensure that promising projects in these key areas do not lack support.
This strategic investment in digital and green research and development is aligned with broader goals of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and digital inclusion, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future.
